Coach Carlo Ancelotti affirms that he has no issues fitting Kylian Mbappe into Real Madrid’s lineup despite having many stars in the attack.
The position of Mbappe in Real Madrid’s attack has been a hot topic after the French forward debuted at Bernabeu. Coach Ancelotti already has skilled attacking players who performed successfully last season.
“To be honest, I haven’t thought about this. However, fitting Mbappe into the lineup is not difficult. Remember, he once said he would adapt to the team. The important thing is that all players must utilize their talents and contribute to the team,” the Real coach said on the podcast “The Obi One.”
A few days after the new team’s debut, Mbappe went to Real’s training center to meet Ancelotti and his new teammates. There, he had a brief exchange with Ancelotti.
“First, I welcomed him to Real Madrid. Second, I advised him to rest because the last season was very long and exhausting,” Ancelotti revealed the content of their conversation.
Mbappe will take a summer break for about three weeks before joining Real on August 8 to prepare for the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta on August 14.
According to AS, it is likely that Ancelotti will use a 4-3-3 formation with the attacking trio of Mbappe – Rodrygo – Vinicius. However, when asked about this, the Italian coach joked that he might have to fill the field with the attacking players he has.
Last season, Real mainly played with a 4-4-2 formation with Jude Bellingham playing at the top of the diamond midfield and ready to push forward to support Rodrygo and Vinicius. This tactic was effective as Real won the La Liga and Champions League double.
Ancelotti emphasized that the flexibility in the movement of the forwards was the key to Real’s success last season. “Vinicius was not just a left winger. He could also cut inside. Bellingham could play all three positions in midfield. Rodrygo could play on both wings,” he said.
The 65-year-old coach stated that he values the creativity of the forwards with the ball, so he always tries to let them play as freely as possible.
“For example, in the first leg against Man City in the Champions League, we let Rodrygo and Vinicius drift to the left because we thought it would give us an advantage. Therefore, we are not too worried about Mbappe’s playing position. I haven’t discussed it with him yet, but the important thing is the flexibility in the attack,” he said.
