Barcelona forward Robert Lewandowski is feeling very excited ahead of the new La Liga season and says he is “sure” he will score more goals than in the 2023-24 season.
Lewandowski was Barcelona’s top scorer last season, with 19 goals in La Liga in 35 appearances under coach Xavi. This isn’t a bad tally for a 35-year-old striker. However, the Polish international is confident that he will break his own record this season.
The Polish captain shared with reporters: “I believe I will score more goals than last year, which was not a good year for me or the team.”
Lewandowski also spoke about his relationship with Hansi Flick, who worked with him at Bayern Munich. “I know Flick very well. He is a coach with new ideas, and it takes time to implement them here. He is doing well. The important thing is that he is committed to playing attacking and vertical football, which benefits any striker.”
Besides his confidence in his personal abilities, Lewandowski also believes that Barcelona can compete with Real Madrid in the race for the championship, even if Kylian Mbappé moves to Real from PSG.
“Real Madrid have won the Champions League and La Liga, but we are ready to compete with them; this is a challenge for us. Mbappé is not a striker like me; he has a different style, but he is a big addition.”
As part of their preseason tour in the United States, Barcelona will face Real Madrid, although Mbappé will be absent as the French star will not be joining his new team on the trip. Lewandowski sees this as an opportunity for Barcelona to showcase their strength against their arch-rivals.
Lewandowski is not only focused on scoring goals but also aims to help Barcelona achieve bigger goals. “I want the team to grow and succeed. We’ve made some changes and adjustments in the squad, and I believe we can do something special this season.”
With high determination and thorough preparation, Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona promise to bring many surprises in the new season. Alongside the leadership of new coach Flick and support from his teammates, Lewandowski hopes to score more goals and help Barcelona regain glory in La Liga and other competitions.
