Coach Xavi Hernandez and his assistant team decided not to receive contract compensation, thereby helping Barca save 12 million euros after leaving.
After a 3-5 defeat to Villarreal early Sunday morning, coach Xavi Hernandez announced that he would leave Barca after this season. Thus, the Spanish strategist will bid farewell to Blaugrana after nearly 3 years of association. He helped the club win 1 La Liga and 1 Spanish Super Cup.
According to Barca Universal, before leaving, Xavi also helped Barca save financially. Specifically, the 44-year-old coach and his assistant team decided not to receive contract compensation. The contract between Xavi and the Catalan club is valid until the end of June 2025, which means former captain Al-Sadd should have received a salary for another season (8 million euros). However, Xavi refused.
Besides Xavi Hernandez, his assistants also agreed not to receive compensation (4 million euros). Thus, they will help Barca save 12 million euros after this season. This is clearly a good action by Xavi and his Blaugrana colleagues in the context that the club is having to save every day to gradually escape financial difficulties.
At the beginning of this season, Xavi agreed to extend his contract with Barca. Thus, the decision to bid farewell to the defending champion La Liga probably came recently, when the club was playing poorly. In La Liga, Blaugrana has dropped to fourth place, 11 points behind top team Girona. In cup competitions, Barca was continuously defeated by Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final and Athletic Bilbao was eliminated from the Copa del Rey.
With 12 million euros saved, Barca will have more money to sign contracts and pay salaries for new coaches. Many strategists have emerged as candidates for the hot seat, such as Roberto De Zerbi, Jurgen Klopp or Rafael Marquez.
